Quondam Retirement Village welcomes a nursing sister driven by purpose

After a decade in banking, Florah found her true calling in elder care while looking after her mother, leading her to a career dedicated to providing compassionate, dignified support for seniors.

Quondam Retirement Village is delighted to welcome Sr Florah Tshonisa, a compassionate and experienced  nursing sister with a heartfelt dedication to elderly care.

Born and raised in Duduza, Nigel, Florah is one of six siblings.

She began her professional journey in the banking sector, spending over a decade at Permanent Bank and Nedbank.

However, her path changed profoundly in 2006 when her mother suffered a stroke.

“It was during that time I realised nursing was not just a passion, but my purpose,” she shared.

As her mother’s primary carer, Florah discovered a deeper calling that led her to pursue a healthcare career.

Following her mother’s passing, she trained at ESDA Frail Care Centre and went on to earn her nursing diploma from Lungile Nursing College.

Since then, she has dedicated herself to providing high-quality care for the elderly, including five years of service at Rand Aid.

Sr. Florah brings a wealth of experience, empathy, and commitment to her role.

“I believe in treating every person with love, dignity, and compassion,” she said.

“To care for someone, you must first listen. Then, you educate, support, and empower them to live fully.”

With patience, tolerance, calmness, and respect, Sr. Florah is committed to ensuring that Quondam Retirement Village residents receive the best possible care.

She is a firm believer in holistic wellbeing: “Eat healthy meals, stay active, and always take your prescribed medication.”
