Gauteng Social Development launches new online funding system for NPOs

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has launched Grantor, a new online platform set to streamline NPO funding applications, improve payment turnaround times and boost transparency.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development is embracing the digital age by launching a new electronic system designed to transform how NPOs apply for funding and receive payments.

The department implemented Grantor, a web-based funding management platform that will replace manual paperwork with a streamlined online process.

The move aims to enhance efficiency, accelerate payments, and improve transparency in the department’s dealings with NPO partners.

From funding applications and business plan submissions to the issuance of service level agreements (SLAs), everything will now be done digitally with the Grantor system.

“We are investing in technology to improve the processing of applications and payments, something that has been a challenge for the department,” said MEC Faith Mazibuko.

“With this new online system, we will work faster and more efficiently. We encourage all NPOs to attend our mandatory workshops to learn more and fully benefit from the system.”

To ensure a smooth transition, the department will host mandatory training workshops and awareness sessions across all five provincial corridors until August 8.

These sessions will help NPOs familiarise themselves with the system and its capabilities.

The workshop schedule is:
• August 5 – central corridor (Johannesburg)
• August 6 – eastern corridor (Ekurhuleni)
• August 7- western corridor (West Rand)
• August 8 – northern corridor (Tshwane)

Venues and exact times will be confirmed in due course. NPO representatives are required to bring their laptops to the workshops to participate in hands-on training.

This transition marks a major step forward in modernising the department’s relationship with NPOs and ensuring that support reaches communities quickly and reliably.
