City of Ekurhuleni praises women powering waste management
The City of Ekurhuleni has honoured Ntombizodwa Mbele and her seven-woman waste management team from Alberton for their dedication and hard work. The recognition, coinciding with Women’s Month, highlights the vital role women play in keeping the city clean.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has praised its Alberton-based and women-led waste management services team.
The team, headed by Ntombizodwa Mbele, boasts a seven-woman dedicated team from the Alberton depot who do round collection.
“In 2018, I got the post of waste truck driver for the Alberton area. I work with both women and men, and I enjoy it. Our work is based on mutual respect and communication,” said Ntombizodwa.
“Our job is so fun and exciting, we do not even feel like we work on the streets,” she added kiddingly.
CoE’s praise for Ntombizodwa and her team coincides with Women’s Month. This month-long celebration honours women’s contributions to society.
CoE has acknowledged the city’s women bus drivers, metro cops, cemeteries and parks staff members, among others.
