WATCH: Salary disputes lead to picketing outside Edenvale Hospital

Members of SACSAAWU protested outside Edenvale Hospital over unpaid July salaries and unresolved benefits, leaving the hospital without security since the evening of August 26.

Members of the South African Cleaners, Security and Allied Workers Union (SACSAAWU) were demonstrating outside Edenvale Hospital this morning, August 27, following alleged salary disputes.

SACSAAWU secretary general Andries Potsane explained that the picket stemmed from members reportedly not being paid their July salaries.

“The company does not want to pay these workers their bonuses, members are not being registered to the provident fund, UIF is a problem, and medical aid is a problem,” said Potsane.

In light of these grievances, Potsane said the members were not going to work, and as such, there has been no security at the hospital since the evening of August 26.

Union members demand action from management and the Department of Health amid salary disputes.

On the morning of August 27, Potsane said there had been no response from the hospital or the Department of Health.

He said a similar incident occurred several years ago when members worked for three months but were not paid. Potsane added that the payments were allegedly never made to the members.
