St Andrew’s School for Girls celebrated Bev van Niekerk’s 30 years of service on September 1.

Van Niekerk joined the school in 1995 and has since become an integral part of its growth and development.

“She shared three decades of devotion and dedication to our school and community, with countless special moments experienced with the many learners, staff, and parents who have been blessed by her service.

“Over the years, she has taken on an array of roles, continually growing and striving to learn more each day for the benefit of our girls, staff, and parents,” said Caterina Cacchioni, head of marketing and admissions.

In 2000, she became head of Farrar House, serving as housemistress until 2008.

That same year, she was appointed head of the department for the intersen phase, and in 2011, she was promoted to deputy head of the junior school.

In 2016, she stepped in as acting head of the junior school before being appointed to the position in 2017.

“As head of the junior school, she plays a key role in leading the phase that bridges preschool and senior school,” added Cacchioni.

Van Niekerk described the junior school as ‘the filling in the St Andrew’s sandwich’, emphasising its central role in preparing learners for the next stages of their education.

Her contributions to the junior school and the broader school community have been significant.

“She initiated the Eco School Programme in 2006 with Anne Gelling. She holds both Honours and Master’s qualifications, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate, for which we wish her every success with the demanding studies,” said Cacchioni.

The school community extended its warmest congratulations to Van Niekerk, wishing her a very happy 30th anniversary.
