Gauteng police seize 776 illegal firearms and over 2 000 rounds of ammunition
Gauteng confirms 192,745 learners registered for matric exams starting October 21, with safe, compliant centres and trained staff ready.
Gauteng police have recovered a total of 776 unlicensed firearms and 2 030 rounds of ammunition between July 1 and September 30, the South African Police Service (SAPS) announced on Monday.
During these three months, law enforcement officers arrested 247 suspects for illegal possession of firearms and apprehended 224 individuals for illegal possession of ammunition, SAPS said.
The recovered weapons include a variety of firearms such as automatic rifles, complete firearms, revolvers, pistols, rifles and shotguns, with some found to have had their serial numbers filed off to prevent tracing.

“These achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts and collaborative work with other law enforcement agencies, private security companies, and government departments,” the police’s statement read.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of communities by continuing to combat crime and prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms in Gauteng.
