Suspect in custody after alleged Bedfordview freeway rock-throwing

A case of malicious damage to property is under investigation at the Bedfordview SAPS following a rock-throwing incident on the freeway, while one suspect is being investigated in connection with a rock-throwing incident.

Bedfordview police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property following an incident in which a rock was allegedly thrown onto the freeway.

Bedfordview SAPS communication liaison officer Sergeant Lillian Modiga said a Residents Action Group member apprehended a male suspect on September 15 near Boeing Road.

She said an eyewitness allegedly observed him throwing a rock onto the freeway.

Modiga added that police took the suspect into custody for further investigation.

“At this stage, it has not been established whether the suspect is linked to any previous rock-throwing incidents reported in the Bedfordview area,” Modiga said.

She said the matter has been handed over to Bedfordview SAPS detectives.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident and any possible links to other cases will be investigated,” said Modiga.

Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activity involving the throwing of objects from bridges or onto freeways to the police.
