Ron Smith Care Centre residents enjoy lively 1km fun walk
Residents of Ron Smith Care Centre embraced fitness and community spirit during a 1km fun walk through the scenic Elphin Lodge grounds, celebrating life, laughter, and friendship in the spring sunshine.
A 1km fun walk saw smiles spread across faces and laughter fill the air as residents of Ron Smith Care Centre (RSCC) enjoyed the outdoor activities.
Simoné Botha, the centre’s occupational therapy and recreation manager, said the October 17 event gave everyone the chance to celebrate life and fitness.

Although the day got off to a chilly start, the sun soon broke through the clouds, creating perfect weather for the walk, which looped through the Elphin Lodge grounds, in which RSCC is situated.

“There was a buzz of excitement as everyone counted down from 10 to start the walk. Along the route, rest stations offered water and juice, though most were eager to keep their stops brief and make it to the finish line,” she said.
The walkers enjoyed chatting, admiring the colourful gardens and even paused to smell the roses.
At the finish line, each participant was greeted with a medal and a much-needed cold drink.
“Afterwards, the tired but happy residents gathered for coffee, tea, chocolate cupcakes and plenty of laughter and conversation.

“It was a truly lovely morning that reminded us of the importance of walking and exercise to keep us young at heart, and of the joy of friendship, community and celebrating life together in the beautiful spring sunshine,” said Simoné.
