As the 2025 school year draws to a close, Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has expressed his appreciation to learners, teachers, parents, school staff, School Governing Bodies, and education stakeholders for their commitment and hard work throughout the year.

Addressing the festive season, Chiloane encouraged families to rest, recharge, and reflect on the year’s achievements and challenges.

He particularly commended the Matric Class of 2025 for their perseverance and dedication, noting that matric results will be released on January 12.

Schools are scheduled to reopen on January 14.

Chiloane also called on parents and guardians across Gauteng to prioritise the payment of school fees at fee-paying public schools.

He highlighted that school fees are vital for maintaining safe, functional, and well-equipped classrooms, hiring additional teachers, reducing overcrowding, and ensuring a quality learning environment for all learners.

“Ha Re Pataleng! Pay your school fees! Supporting your child’s education is the right thing to do,” Chiloane said.

He stressed that recommitting to school fee payments is a critical way for families to contribute to the province’s education system and secure better opportunities for their children.

The Gauteng Department of Education emphasised that collaborative efforts between schools, families, and communities are key to ensuring learners return in 2026 ready to embrace new academic challenges.
