WATCH: Fire breaks out at business in Edenvale CBD

Emergency services respond to blaze on Van Riebeeck Avenue as authorities urge public to avoid the area.

According to initial information, a business along Van Riebeeck Avenue caught fire during the early hours of the morning.

The Edenvale Community Policing Forum (CPF) confirmed that emergency services responded to the scene. Firefighters and other emergency personnel are currently attending to the incident.

The CPF has urged community members to keep clear of the area to allow emergency teams to work safely and without obstruction.

A request for comment has been sent to the City of Ekurhuleni’s DEMS spokesperson, William Ntladi, for further information.

Update at 14:00: Firefighters injured 

Two private firefighters were injured while entering the burning building on Van Riebeeck Road in Edenvale.

According to updated reports, both firefighters sustained injuries while attempting to enter the well-alight premises. They were transported to hospital for further medical treatment.
