Tarentaal Retirement Village’s monthly morning market returned on 13 March, offering shopping, treats, live music and community camaraderie, with proceeds supporting resident events.
Tarentaal Retirement Village was a hive of activity when residents and visitors recently visited the village’s monthly morning market.
The market is held at the village hall on the second Friday of every month; the most recent was on March 13.
The event, which is a highlight on the village’s social calendar, combines shopping, treats and camaraderie in a lively, community-focused atmosphere.

Residents and outside stallholders offered a variety of goods ranging from homemade treasures to shoes and clothing.
Food and drink were also on the menu, including tea, coffee, flapjacks, and toasted chicken mayo and cheese sandwiches.

The beloved ice-cream truck made its customary stop, with music providing a cheerful backdrop for browsing and socialising.
“The market remains a key fundraiser for the village, with profits going directly into the residents’ central fund to support community events, particularly the end-of-year Christmas dinner,” said village deputy manager Lynn Barrow.
The event is not only popular with Tarentaal residents.

Visitors from other Rand Aid villages and members of the public also turn out to attend the event.

For those who love a bargain, the village also has a white elephant store, open twice a week at the market.
The store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:00 to 11:00, giving shoppers the opportunity to find hidden treasures.
