The reopening of the Ron Smith Care Centre’s dining room coincided with St Patrick’s Day, turning the unveiling into a joyful celebration.

On March 17, residents and staff arrived donned in shades of green as they came together to celebrate the occasion.

A lively quiz was also held.

Guests were treated to a hearty meal from Reef Caterers. The meal consisted of roast beef, parsley rice, pumpkin fritters and, fittingly, green jelly and custard.

The renovation of the RSCC’s dining room started towards the end of 2025 after the closure of the centre’s in-house catering division, Cookchill.

Structural issues with the RSCC’s kitchen and dining room roof provided an opportunity not just for repairs but for a full redesign.

The result is a welcoming, homely space with a central colour palette, fresh curtains and modern tables and chairs.

The new design theme, which emphasises calmness and warmth, will gradually be extended to the recreation centre and all wings to create a unified environment across the entire care centre.

Jan Miller and Bob Miller enjoy the celebrations.

Beyond offering daily dining, the space will host functions, movie screenings, sports events and family visits, creating opportunities for connection across the care centre.
