Ekurhuleni DEMS marks International Firefighters’ Day
The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) honoured firefighters on International Firefighters’ Day with a prize-giving ceremony recognising their service and dedication.
The City’s DEMS joined the global community in commemorating International Firefighters’ Day on May 4, paying tribute to firefighters for their commitment and service.

As part of the local commemoration, DEMS hosted a prize-giving ceremony where firefighters were recognised through a lucky draw.
Winners were selected during the event, with names drawn by DEMS acting divisional head of emergency services Lifty Koena Ngoepe, alongside Southern African Emergency Services Institute president Theresa Geldenhuys.
The initiative formed part of efforts to acknowledge and uplift emergency personnel within the City of Ekurhuleni’s disaster and emergency services.
DEMS said the celebration highlighted the importance of firefighters’ role in safeguarding communities and responding to emergencies across the metro.
