EMPD confiscates goods from illegal traders during Edenvale CBD operation

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) confiscated goods and issued 20 fines during a by-law enforcement operation targeting illegal traders.

The EMPD conducted a permit verification and enforcement operation targeting illegal traders in Edenvale on May 16.

According to the EMPD, officers from the By-Law Enforcement and Compliance Unit carried out the operation in the CBD.

The operation focused on Van Riebeeck and Second streets, where officers inspected hawkers to verify whether they had valid trading permits and were operating within the designated trading areas stipulated on their permits.

During the operation, officers confiscated various goods from traders found operating illegally without valid permits. All confiscated items were taken to the Kempton Park pound.

In addition, officers issued 20 by-law infringement fines.

The EMPD said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce the City of Ekurhuleni’s by-laws and maintain cleanliness and order in the city.

The department added that it remains committed to ensuring that all business owners and traders operate within the framework of municipal regulations.
