Parkmeadow blood drive turns donations into a community challenge

With less than 1% of South Africans actively donating blood, every donation matters, and a single unit of blood can save up to three lives.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) calls on community members to make a lifesaving difference while taking part in a fun and exciting community challenge.

The SANBS Parkmeadow Donor Centre invites donors and community members to participate in its Jail and Bail Campaign.

The unique campaign is an initiative aimed at boosting blood donations during the winter season when blood stocks are often at their lowest.

Winter is traditionally a challenging time for blood collection, with school holidays, colder weather, and seasonal illnesses such as flu and colds often resulting in fewer people donating blood.

Yet the need for blood never takes a holiday.

With less than 1% of South Africans actively donating blood, every donation matters, and a single unit of blood can save up to three lives.

As valued members of the Kensington, Bedfordview and Edenvale communities, the SANBS calls on residents to become Jail and Bail champions.

The event will be held on June 20 at the Parkmeadow Donor Centre (next to Dis-Chem), from 09:00.
How it works:

• Get “jailed” for a good cause.
• Rally friends, family, colleagues and community members to donate blood on your behalf.
• Secure 10 successful blood donations under your name.
• Earn your freedom once your 10th donor has donated.

The faster supporters arrive and donate, the sooner those “jailed” will be released.

It’s a fun, friendly challenge that puts the power to save lives directly in the community’s hands.

Whether you’re a community leader, local personality, business owner, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, this is the opportunity to inspire others, create healthy competition, and help ensure that patients in need have access to lifesaving blood.
