Vehicle crashes into Bedfordview Montessori wall for third time this year

No response from the City of Ekurhuleni regarding safety measures after third vehicle drives into the Bedfordview Montessori pre-school fence for the third time this year.

Just as they were recovering from their second drive-in incident, Bedfordview Montessori had a vehicle drive into their wall for the third time this year.

The incident took place on June 7, just before midnight.

Manager at the pre-school, Michelle Fitchett, reported that they had waited over an hour for the EMPD.
She said she could smell alcohol on the allegedly intoxicated driver.

While they waited for the EMPD, Fitchett said a SAPS vehicle drove by during a routine patrol. “The officers encouraged us to wait for the EMPD, as there was nothing they could do.

“The police arrived at around 01:45 and they put the guy in the van, while the other guy was uncooperative,” narrated Fitchett.

While they were all standing there, the pre-school manager said another car passed by and drove over the circle.

She added, “If he had lost control, he would have crashed into all of us. Something seriously needs to be done.”

Three streetlights on Angus Road, outside the pre-school, have not been working for months. The preschool had just spent R8 000 fixing the wall after the second drive-in incident on May 11.

Fitchett said the latest damage will cost even more because it’s a bigger hole.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga confirmed that on June 7 at 23:55, the complainant reported that while at her residence, she received a call from the security guard regarding malicious damage to property at the business premises, Bedfordview Montessori Pre-School.

“On arrival, the complainant found the perimeter wall fence damaged. Further investigation revealed a white VW Golf on the scene, which had collided with and damaged the fence,” said Modiga.

She added that police attended the scene and an investigation into malicious damage to property is ongoing.

No suspect has been arrested.
A request for comments was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni regarding street lights and safety issues on June 10 and a follow-up on June 17, but no response was received.
