Bedfordview SPCA seeks volunteers to support animal welfare

The NPO Germiston Bedfordview SPCA is appealing for volunteers to assist at its Charity Shop as well as a volunteer photographer.

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA is appealing to compassionate members of the community to donate their time by joining its dedicated team of volunteers.

Volunteers can assist by helping to raise vital funds or by using their photography skills to help homeless animals find loving families.

Operations Management Support volunteer Jacques Peacock said that, as a non-profit organisation, the SPCA relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers to continue caring for abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

“Every hour volunteered makes a meaningful difference,” he said.

Join the Charity Shop team

The SPCA is looking for volunteers to assist at its Charity Shop, which is currently open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 09:00 to 12:00.

With more volunteers on board, the organisation hopes to extend its trading hours and generate even more income for the animals in its care.

Volunteers also take turns staffing the popular weekly Saturday Book Sale at Pick n Pay Primrose and representing the SPCA at Uncle Tim’s Market on the first Sunday of every month.

“Whether you enjoy meeting people, love books and bargain hunting, or simply want to give back to your community, the Charity Shop team offers a rewarding way to make a tangible impact,” said Hilary Mitchley, who leads the Charity Shop team.

Volunteer photographer needed

The SPCA is also searching for a volunteer photographer to photograph its adoption animals once a week at a time that suits the volunteer’s schedule.

These photographs are used in the SPCA’s adoption campaigns across social media and other platforms, helping potential adopters connect with animals waiting for their forever homes.

Applicants should have their own camera and be able to provide the photographs promptly after each visit. No editing is required, as keeping the adoption posts current is the priority.

“A great photograph can be the difference between an animal being overlooked and an animal finding a loving family,” said the SPCA’s kennel manager, Mthunzi Motha. “This is an opportunity for someone with a passion for photography to use their talent to change lives.”
