Wild olive tree takes root at Thornhill Manor

Thornhill Manor Retirement Village celebrated Arbor Day on September 7 with the planting of a wild olive tree, generously donated by Servest.
The wild olive (Olea europaea subsp. africana) is an indigenous South African tree that is well suited to local conditions.
It is an evergreen species that can live for many years and provides valuable shade and shelter for birds and other wildlife.
Its small fruits are also an important food source for birds.

“The tree has now found a new home at Thornhill Manor, where it will continue to grow and become part of the village landscape for years to come,” said village manager Shaun Victor.
Following the planting, residents and staff gathered for tea in the village community centre, providing a pleasant opportunity to mark the occasion together.
