Holy Rosary’s Tyraleigh De Bruin excels in academics and national sports
Tyraleigh De Bruin of Holy Rosary School achieved top-1% national IEB results while representing South Africa in netball and basketball, demonstrating extraordinary discipline and determination.
While most learners find the pressure of matric finals all-consuming, Holy Rosary’s Tyraleigh De Bruin proved that elite performance is possible across two very different arenas simultaneously.
As a South African national and provincial representative in both netball and basketball, Tyraleigh maintained a rigorous training schedule throughout 2025 while securing a distinction-average across her academic subjects.
Her discipline culminated in an extraordinary achievement in the IEB examinations, where she placed in the top 1% of candidates nationwide for business studies, earning a near-perfect score of 96%.

Tyraleigh’s success contributed to a historic milestone for Holy Rosary School, which celebrated its 85th Jubilee by recording the strongest-performing cohort in the school’s history. ]
Tyraleigh’s personal academic scorecard included six distinctions (business studies, life orientation, Afrikaans, life sciences, accounting, and mathematics) and an overall aggregate of 83%.
Holy Rosary leadership praised Tyraleigh’s tenacity, noting that ranking in the top 1% of the country while representing a nation in two sports is a “rare and commendable feat”.
High School Principal Belinda Damhuis noted that students like Tyraleigh embodied the 2025 theme of “Thrive,” exceeding expectations and elevating the school’s academic standing.
Tyraleigh now looks to bring her competitive drive to the corporate world, planning to pursue a degree in either accounting or business.
