Hawkers told to clean mess

I understand they need somewhere to work but they are putting down the value of our properties by leaving the place in a mess.

EDITOR – I recently took a few photographs of the area on First Avenue behind Shanahan Park, where Hawkers have set up to sell their goods.

It’s all fine but they are leaving this area in a bad state with papers, plastic bags and broken chairs lying around with make-shift stands and awnings.

I understand they need somewhere to work but they are putting down the value of our properties by leaving the place in a mess.

EDITOR’S COMMENT: Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Wilfred Kgasago commented as follows:

Both the Precinct Station and By-Law Unit have issued warnings to the traders to clear the area at the end of the trading day.

Traders have been made aware that failure to comply will result in them being stopped from trading in the area in question.
