EDITOR – Please could the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS in future include each week either on the second or third page of the paper details of any road detours or closures pertaining to road running or cycle races for the forthcoming weekend?
I believe that this would be a real service to readers of a community newspaper.
While it is great to see people running and cycling around our town, it is frustrating as a motorist to be held up or having to find an alternative route at the last minute.
A lot of planning with various authorities must be made by the organisers of these races. Surely they could supply a route map for the NEWS to print in the paper ahead of the race?

EDENVALE.
EDITOR’S COMMENT – Marietta Lombard, Editor of the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS commented as follows:
Road closures and road races are published on condition that space allows for it and the relevant information is sent to the NEWS timeously and ahead of deadline.
For example, articles on the Sarens Edenvale Marathon were published since October 2013. This event enjoyed pre-publicity continuing into 2014 and was featured in no less than six of the NEWS’ first 11 editions for 2014.
Organisers are responsible for ensuring the NEWS is made aware of upcoming events, including road races, which can affect traffic or the community, in due time.
Readers are urged to take note that sports events are featured on sports pages.
Road closures for maintenance or other purposes, excluding legal notices, are published in the community news section of the paper.
