EDITOR – The recent heavy rains have created a surface symptom (potholes) which I am sure will be “fixed” on a regular basis, but unfortunately, the extent of traffic on this arterial and its age since last resurfaced, has contributed to a general deterioration of the road structure as a whole.
There is large scale cracking of the surface which is a strong indication of advanced failure of the underlying foundation layers.
I fear that it is already too late to solve the problem with just a resurface.

EDITOR’S COMMENT – The letter was sent to the spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) Mr Themba Gadebe for comment on March 6.
