Bowlers flock to Edenvale for league finals
Ten clubs qualified and about 140 participants from various districts competed.
The Edenvale Bowling Clubs’ ladies first division team claimed first place in the Ekurhuleni Saturday League finals.

Held on February 18, the finals were sponsored by Perfect Delivery.
Ekurhuleni Bowls is one of 20 districts affiliated with bowls in South Africa.
According to the Edenvale Bowling Club’s committee member, Raymond Pieters, the league started last October and was played over 10 rounds, culminating in the finals.
Ten clubs qualified and about 140 participants from various districts competed.
The Edenvale Bowling Club was abuzz with bowlers and spectators who had come out to enjoy the high standard of bowling.

The winners in the ladies’ category were:
• First Division – Edenvale.
• Second Division – Benoni Country Club.
• Third Division – Delmas.
The winners in the men’s category were:
• Premier League – Kempton Park.
• First Division – Boksburg.
• Second Division – Lake Club.
• Third Division – Edenvale.
• Fourth Division – Delmas.
Pieters said the Edenvale Bowling Club showed its strength by having five finalists, three winners and two runners-up.

The Edenvale Ladies have won the Premier League three years in a row.
“Any sport-minded person should consider bowls. It is one of the few sports where men and women compete on equal terms,” said Pieters.
He said age and size are not factors.
“The face of bowls is changing to a younger participant and many current champions are in the 30- to 40-year-old category.”

The club provides free coaching on Saturday mornings with qualified coaches.
Pieters said the club also offers hall hiring facilities, company fun and team-building days at competitive rates.
