Action at Mandeville
The Amawheelaboys beat the Lions at Mandeville’s indoor sports arena over the weekend of August 17 and 18, for the biggest upset in the Supersport Wheelchair Basketball series to date.
The win ensured that Amawheelaboys qualify for the semi-finals.
During the first round of the competition, eight competing franchises participated in a round robin playoff to determine the top four and bottom four teams.
The Lions topped the log followed by the Pumas.
In third place was the Wings, with the Bladerunners in fourth to complete the top half of the standings.
Leading the bottom half was Mongoose followed the Amawheelaboys.
In seventh place was home side, the Eagles, and in eight was the Saints.
The second round seeding of teams determined the two pools, where a further round robin tournament was played between the top and bottom four teams.
Teams seeded in these pools played in a crossover playoff in the third round, which determined the quarter final playoffs.
At the end of the second round, in pool A, the Wings topped the log with the Lions in second, the Pumas in third and the Bladerunners in fourth.
In pool B, team Mongoose placed first with the Eagles in second, Amawheelies in third and the Saints in fourth.
During the crossover games in round three, the Wings took on the Saints, the Lions played off against the Amawheelies, the Pumas took on the Eagles and the Bladerunners were challenged by Mongoose.
