Locals qualify for Fish River Marathon
The first compulsory race of the Klip Series took place at Florida Lake Canoe Club on Sunday last week.
The 22km race from Daleside through Henley on Klip to Meyerton was a perfect re-introduction to river races for those paddlers who have been hibernating through winter.
With the biggest race on the canoe calendar, the Hansa Fish River Marathon, scheduled in just six weeks the event was packed with contestants.
Over 100 boats finished the race.
Modderfontein residents, Michael Sherwood and Edenvale resident Paul Davies, were among those who finished the race.
The two have achieved an A grade qualifying status and are looking forward to participation at the Hansa Fish River Marathon in September.
Michael and Paul are both members of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club based in Germiston.
