Swimmers selected for inter-provincials

Some 14 swimmers from Edenvale’s Aquatic Academy were selected to represent Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA) at the Small Province Interprovincial which took place this past weekend.

Swimmers were selected from the times they have recorded so far this season, from May 2013 to April 2014, on the Swim South Africa database.

Previous times from the past season are wiped out, encouraging swimmers to keep up their training in the gruelling winter months.

The EGA has held three winter league galas at the St Benedict’s College pool.

The Sasol Winter Championships and the Central Gauteng Auatics (CGA) Junior Short Course events were also events swimmers could take part in.

The competition within the EGA has strengthened, particularly among the younger age groups.

This has required that both the swimmers and their coaches reset their training and competition standards, to a far higher level.

Amber Trollop was the club’s youngest competitor.

She is the only 9-year-old swimming in the 10 and under age group.

Provincial record holders, Murray Copeland and Ashleigh Stock, were looking to set good times.

Jayden Trollope won two gold medals at the CGA Junior Short Course championships.
