Young Lions FC maul Tigers FC
The Young Lions Football Club came out victorious in its clash against the visiting Tigers FC at the Rhodes Park Football Grounds on November 17.
It was a dominant performance from the home team, who beat their KwaZulu-Natal counterparts 3-1.
The game was characterised by the silky skills displayed by both teams and players commitment showed in the hard tackling of both teams.
The Lions were first on the score sheet after a mistake from a Tiger’s defender.
His poor clearance resulted in the opposition gaining possession, a shot was taken and the ball was deflected into the net.
It was not long before the Lions increased their lead through a penalty after a player was brought down inside the box.
The captain picked his spot and slotted the ball home.
Tigers FC team was chasing the game, spending a lot of time in the Lions’ half, pressing for a goal.
Their efforts were soon rewarded when they scored through a free-kick after a player was judged to have handled the ball.
The Lions seemed to been rattled by the goal and started defending deep.
It was in the final minutes of the game when a long kick from the ‘keeper bounced awkwardly for the Tigers’ defence, who failed to deal with it.
The ball fell for a Lions striker, who made sure the points stayed in Gauteng and curled the ball into the net.
