Commonwealth medals for local karate students
In addition to the performance of his students, Senseai Michael Roetz was also one of the national coaches for the team in India.
Three local karate students recently excelled at the 8th Commonwealth Karate Championships which were held in New Deli, India.
South Africa was represented by a total of 25 contestants who brought home five gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
Marinda Roetz returned home with a gold medal in Kumite in the U/14 age category for students weighing less than 47 kilogrammes.
Rentia Roetz received a silver medal for Kumite in the Juniors category for 16 to 17 year olds weighing less than 53 kilogrammes.
Ethan Willett also received a silver medal for his Kumite performance at the championships for students weighing less than 38 kilogrammes.
All three students train at the Michael Roetz Karate Institute in Edenvale.
In addition to the performance of his students, Senseai Michael Roetz was also one of the national coaches for the team in India.
As a result of her performance, Rentia Roetz has qualified to participate in the World Championships – WKF Junior and Cadet and U/21 Championships.
The event will take place from November 12 to November 15 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Only the world’s best karate students are selected to participate in the event,” said Sensei Michael Roets.
