South African karate’s premier event of the year was held at the Ellis Park Arena on May 19 and 20.

More than 2 900 entries were registered.

Each province selected and entered its top students.

The students participated in divisions according to belt level, age and gender (about 400 different divisions).

Only the best of the best are selected for the national tournament.

Six of the senior students were selected to represent South Africa in the Funakoshi Gichin Cup 14th Karate World Championship taking place in Ireland in August this year.

They are Adriana Tasovac, Chanel Stevens, Michaela Herbert, Julio Bartolo, Romy Nathan and Femida Enuss.
