Father and daughter prepare for wild water

The father and daughter duo finished a 30km race organised by their local club; Victoria Lake Canoe Club in Germiston, in a time of 2 hours 44 minutes

Craig Johnston from Bedfordview, an experienced A-grade paddler with a number of Dusi’s to his credit, is enjoying introducing his daughter Jade to the exciting adrenalin-filled sport of canoeing.

First-year paddlers require a certain number of points in order to enjoy A-grade rivers and experienced paddlers frequently team up with the newbies to help them learn and gain knowledge, skill and ability.

Jade has already earned three points towards her A-grade status and they are looking forward to the wild, white water of the Fish River Marathon later this year, in Cradock.

The father and daughter duo finished a 30km race organised by their local club, Victoria Lake Canoe Club (VLC), in a time of two hours and 44 minutes.

VLC based at Germiston Lake has hosted a number of river races to provide opportunities for paddlers to gain stamina and endurance as they build up their mileage and prepare for the ICF World Marathon event that will take place in South Africa later this year.
