Raptors wrestlers on the move

Nine members from Raptors Wrestling Club will compete at the South African National Youth Championships.
Rico van der Westhuizen, Wiandru van Rooyen, Dewald de Wet, Joubert Deale, Chris Kruger, Daniella de Wet, Shannon Jansen van Rensburg, Janick Kruger and Ciara Deale will represent Eastern Gauteng at the event.
It will be held on October 5 and 6 in Wynberg.

He said in total 14 Raptor members were selected, but five of them were not able to attend the event.
Assistant coach Lorinda Jansen van Rensburg said five of the representatives are female wrestlers.

“The achievements of these young ladies this year are something very special and we are proud of what our ‘Raptorettes’ accomplished this year,” said van Rensburg.
She said the club has also been nominated as a finalist in the Ekurhuleni Women in Sports Awards for Sports Club of the Year.
Earlier this year, the club competed at the Eastern Gauteng Championship, on August 24, and the Kwavaluma Regional Championship, on September 1.
The club won 11 gold medals, eight silver medals and five bronze medals at the eastern champs.
It additionally won nine gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals at the regional champs.
Dewald de Wet Junior was also selected for the Noordvaal-team and will compete at the Noordvaal Competition and represent the Eastern Gauteng Wrestling Association later this year.
“It was a great year so far, We wish all of our national championship delegates the best of luck with the upcoming championship,” said de Wet.
