Edenvale Panthers pounce on opposition

The success on the field saw the team make its way to third position on the log.

Edenvale Panthers first team claimed victory in the Kestrel League when they beat Heidelberg 31-22.

The success on the field at Edenvale Sports Grounds on April 6 saw the team make its way to the third position on the log with East Rand Police in second place and Elsburg on top.

Coach Gideon de Bruyn said two tries were scored by Marius Stellenberg and a further three tries were scored by Jerome Janssen, who started in the second half of the game.

Before the Heidelberg game, the Panthers faced off against Elsburg and the local team lost 48-0 despite their best efforts.

“We had a lot of injuries and some of the players were sick, but we will work on our mistakes before our next match and will fix them,” said de Bruyn.

On April 27, the Panthers will take on East Rand Police at the Edenvale Sports Grounds.

De Bruyn believes the April 27 game will be a close one as both teams are relatively young.

“We will work and train hard and, hopefully, will be the winners on the 27th.”
