Edenvale paddler creates waves
Despite cold weather Welsh and Gaspari completed the race in just over seven hours and finished in second place in the Sub Master age category.
Edenvale resident and Victoria Lake Canoe Club member Anthony Welsh recently partnered up with Claudio Gaspari when he competed in the 70th Vaal River Marathon.
Held on June 22 and 23 the race saw paddlers take to the water to complete the 65km long race.
Despite cold weather Welsh and Gaspari completed the race in just over seven hours and finished in second place in the Sub Master age category.
Jennie Dallas, the public relations officer of the Gauteng Canoe Union, said the race had a misty start reducing paddlers’ visibility.
“It was challenging but the paddlers had a great day anyway thanks to Bell Equipment who arranged bright yellow long sleeve t-shirts for all participants as well as caps and stickers, which improved their visibility,” said Dallas.
