Festive season challenge for Cleveland SAPS
Although certain crimes escalated over the festive season, the Cleveland SAPS managed to make several arrests.
Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said there were a number of house robberies during the festive season.
“There was a group of balaclava-clad suspects terrorising the community of Malvern. With the help of the community, we managed to arrest six of the suspects linked to the crimes,” said Const Mashakane.
In December last year, the Cleveland SAPS urged Malvern residents to be aware of the balaclava gang.
Police were on a manhunt for the criminals involved in these crimes. According to the Cleveland SAPS, the men wore balaclavas at all times and were heavily armed.
Business robberies were also problematic over the festive season within the Cleveland SAPS precinct.
“With high visibility, we managed to bring it under control,” said Const Mashakane.
