Bring on spring
Just as fashion changes in what one wears or how you decorate your home, so too should the garden.

We are certainly having an early spring this year.
A walk through the garden just lifts the spirits with all the flowers, sights and smells of spring. This is the time of the year when new plants are also introduced
New and exciting
Same-same but different, is not how we see some of the best new plants being released for summer 2015. Agapanthus Zambezi is just one of the exciting releases this spring. Just as fashion changes in what one wears or how you decorate your home, so too should the garden. New plants not only bring new colours but also varieties that grow better and which are suited to modern living.
Wake up the garden
Even though the garden has not slowed down as much this past winter, it’s time to wake it up and get it summer ready. Fertilising the garden and improving the soil is the best way to do this. Which fertiliser should you be using on the lawns or the beds? With so many fertilisers out there, we have made it easy with our Fertiliser Quick Guide
Sorting out the lawn
A green lawn is the one thing everybody loves. Most lawns in our local area are Kikuyu, with evergreen lawns such as Shade-Over and All Seasons Evergreen as options for small spaces and problem areas. LM Grass as a runner lawn in semi-shade is an indigenous alternative, which establishes fast and is water wise. August through September is sorting out the lawn after winter time.
Water Wise Gazanias
Named after a 15th century Greek-Italian scholar, Theodorus of Gaza, Gazanias are one of the most popular indigenous plants, not just in SA, but around the world. The ultimate water wise and environmental warrior plant, Gazanias will also attract butterflies and bees to the garden. Gazanias flower for months through spring and summer and thrive on a little neglect.
We love spring. When you see the garden coming to life, flowers and fresh leaves appearing like magic overnight, it always gets one going and let’s you know something exciting is on the way.
Spring cleaning in the garden gets the lawn going, fills the air with scent, covers the ground in flowers and has the veggie and herb garden filling the rest of the senses.
More and more gardeners are opting to ‘Grow their Own’ fruit and vegetables. There certainly is a difference in taste – nothing beats home-grown. Of course, the fact that you can control what they get sprayed with and which fertiliser you use, will also mean you can grow them truly organic. The winter veggies finish off fast this time of the year and the end of August is the perfect time to rejuvenate the pots and beds where you grow your herbs and yummy veggies.
