CWL to host Spring Fete

This year, the fête will take place on September 6.

The Spring Fête, held every two years by the Johannesburg diocesan council of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), has become an important part of the group’s fundraising activities.

This year, the fête will take place on September 6 at the grounds of the De La Salle Holy Cross College, in Victory Park.

The event will be open from 9am to 4pm.

Visitors to the fête will find a variety of stalls and entertainment, including handiwork, toys, books, bottles as well as a White Elephant stall.

In over 80, years the CWL has established a number of charitable projects.

These include an Adoption Society, which deals with foster caring and the placing of babies for adoption locally and overseas, the Mary Immaculate Queen Pre-School in Eldorado Park, which serves the surrounding areas and provides an affordable and thorough pre-school education to the children of many disadvantaged families.

The St Anne’s Home for elderly ladies is home for 38 ladies, of which 20 are in the frail care section. Many of these ladies are on limited pensions and the CWL provides funds to supplement the home’s income.

There will be a R5 entrance charge on the day and lucky ticket holders stand a chance to win one of four hampers which will be drawn throughout the day.
