New local film set to ignite the hearts of audiences
JOBURG – A local film featuring leading South African talent will be released during Women's Month and is expected to go down with local audiences.

A new local film starring an impressive array of home-brewed talent looks to light up the big screen in 2017.
Set in 1652 in the Cape Colony (Cape of Good Hope), Krotoa tackles the widely popular premise ‘an attack on your culture, is an attack on your identity’.
The film is directed by Roberta Durrant and has already raked in some resounding acclaim. Maboneng’s very own Armand Aucamp, who has featured in a number of other local films including Eye in the Sky, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and the Safta (South African Film and Television Awards) nominated Near Life, portrays the character of the antagonistic Dutch colonial ruler, Jan van Riebeeck.
“The film will only be released during Women’s Month in South Africa and is set to be a hit with local audiences. It is inspired by historical facts that tell the story of a feisty, bright, young eleven-year-old girl, who is removed from her close-knit Khoi tribe to serve Jan van Riebeeck, her uncle’s trading partner,” said Durrant. “Krotoa [played by 7de Laan actress Crystal-Donna Roberts] is brought into the first fort, established by the Dutch East India Company. There, she grows into a visionary young woman, who assimilates the Dutch language and culture so well that she rises to become an influential interpreter for Van Riebeeck, the first governor of the Cape Colony.”
In addition to the exploits of Durant and the star power of Aucamp and Roberts, the film is written by Kaye Ann Williams and Margaret Goldsmith. Jacques Bessenger, Deon Lotz, Marcel van Heerden, Roeline Daneel, Brendon Daniels and Ernest St Clair also feature in the film.
Details: The film will be officially released at Ster-Kinekor Cinemas nationwide in August.
