Founded in 2012, the band was formed by two brothers – Kieron Patton and Jadd Stein-Hard – and their passion for music.

Vocalist and trombone player for the band Kieron said friends who could play instruments were asked to join the band.

The band now consists of five members – Jadd, Kieron, Wally Baggins, Brad Wiggins and Les Bainbridge.

Kieron said the first time the band performed for an audience was at a friend’s wedding.

“We were terrible, but the audience really supported us,” he said.

Since then the band has grown and developed its style.

Kieron said as the band grew its members wanted to move towards music styled around the ska-punk genre.

They achieved this by including the sound of a trombone in their performances.

Kieron said although he is a self-taught musician, he had to go for trombone lesson with William Bishop of Fuzigish.

“The sound of a brass instrument is unique. When you hear it you are immediately attracted to the sound,” explained Kieron.

He said the new sound attracted a bigger audience.

When the band meets for practice, Kieron said its members are relaxed and everyone enjoys themselves.

“We try to stay true to our roots and just have fun with each other,” said Kieron.

“If Slippery is having fun, then the audience will have fun.”

Kieron said in order to stay true to their roots the band takes its time to write songs they care about.

Some of the topics the band sings about on their new album include relationships, politics and personal growth.

“Jadd writes all of our songs, he tries to find an emotional attachment to a topic and sings about it.”

Looking to the future, Kieron said he hopes the band will grow even more.

“Punk music has a unique energy which drives it,” said Kieron.

“It is an energetic fun brand of music that anyone can relate to or interpret as they see fit.”

One of the band’s long-term goals is to one day tour South Africa to grow punk and ska-punk music.

Kieron said a lot of people don’t understand punk music and steer away from it.

“The punk community is a really nice community, everyone is friendly and accepted,” said Kieron.
