Clifton College celebrates record-breaking IEB matric results
Clifton College’s Class of 2025 has set new records with the highest number of distinctions per candidate in the school’s history.
THE Clifton College Class of 2025 has delivered an exceptional set of Independent Examination Board (IEB) matric results, setting new academic records and reinforcing the school’s reputation for excellence.
The cohort achieved a 100% pass rate for the 20th consecutive year, alongside an outstanding Bachelor Degree pass rate of 97.8%. In a historic first for the school, the class also recorded the highest number of distinctions per candidate, marking a new academic benchmark for Clifton College.
A total of 89 matriculants collectively achieved 231 subject distinctions, averaging 2.6 distinctions per learner, the highest in the school’s history. In addition, 31 candidates attained A aggregates, representing 34.8% of the grade, while the overall class average stood at 73.4%. Notably, 62% of the cohort achieved an average of 70% or higher.

Clifton College Dux of 2025, Jack Lawlor, emerged as one of the top performers nationally, achieving nine distinctions and an overall aggregate of 95%. He was named on the IEB Outstanding Performer list for English HL, History, Life Orientation, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences, earning an Honours Cum Laude Award.

Vedarshan Moodley scored a 92.4% average and 10 distinctions across a range of subjects, including accounting, Afrikaans, English, Information Technology, mathematics, physical sciences, and several Further Studies Mathematics courses. He was also recognised on the IEB Outstanding Performer list for placing in the top 1% nationally in Afrikaans FAL and physical sciences.
Lucas Peria achieved eight distinctions, while five candidates, Jason Adams, Wasim Mulla, Dasyan Naidoo (Head Boy 2025), Julian Puterman, and Imran Vally earned seven distinctions each.

The class’s achievements extended beyond individual success, with three candidates named on the IEB Outstanding List for placing in the top 5% nationally across six subjects, and a total of 12 top 1% national rankings achieved across various subjects.
Strong subject performances were recorded across the curriculum. Dramatic Arts achieved a 73% distinction rate with a group average of 84%, Engineering Graphics and Design recorded a 68% distinction rate with an average of 82%, and Visual Arts achieved a 63% distinction rate with a group average of 79%. Mathematics, physical sciences, and history also delivered strong results, with distinction rates of 40%, 58%, and 50% respectively.
Commenting on the results, Clifton College management praised the dedication of both learners and staff. “These exceptional outcomes are a testament to the sustained commitment, resilience, and academic discipline shown by the Class of 2025,” the school said. “To achieve record distinctions while maintaining a 100% pass rate for the 20th consecutive year reflects the strength of our academic programme and the collaborative effort between learners, teachers, and families.”
