CAGED: Boksburg tiger owner refuses to hand animal over to Lion’s Rock

The Boksburg SPCA has reported on it's Facebook page that they are very disappointed that the owners of the tiger cub have taken the decision not to hand over the animal to Lion's Rock.

Lion’s Rock is a sanctuary where there is no hunting, trading or breeding.

“They chose to rather keep the cub and make a cage for the youngster in the back garden.

“We cannot understand how someone who claims to love an animal can then actively choose to place this same animal in a cage,” said the SPCA.

The SPCA said this simply does not compute.

“It is the Boksburg SPCAs honest opinion that the non-existent regulations that currently permit people to hold exotic pets such as tigers with no issue, while animals such as tortoises (for example) require a permit, be reviewed.

“Exotic animals are being held in situations that are not beneficial to them in any way.”
