Daveyton artist releases inspiring new EP

For Daveyton rapper Mjay Ranks, success begins long before the applause.
The independent artist recently released his latest EP, Before the Arrival, using music to tell the story of determination, sacrifice and the challenges of pursuing a dream.
Mjay Ranks, who grew up in Daveyton, said the project reflects the reality many aspiring artists experience while working towards their goals.
“The title speaks about everything that happens before success arrives,” he said. “It’s about believing in yourself even when nobody else sees the vision.”
The EP brings together collaborations with King Grizzy, Lolli Native, Jacob Shine and Zai Maya, with each track exploring different aspects of life, from loyalty and relationships to personal growth and resilience.
Beyond releasing music, Mjay Ranks is focused on growing his independent label, RanksVille Entertainment, which he hopes will provide a platform for up-and-coming artists from the East Rand.
He believes there is an abundance of untapped talent in the area and wants his journey to encourage others to pursue their ambitions despite the obstacles they may face.
“Every dream starts somewhere,” he said. “I want people to know they shouldn’t give up just because success hasn’t arrived yet.”
The artist said he hopes listeners will connect with the messages behind the music as much as they enjoy the sound.
