Have a say in childcare and spaza shop policies

The minimum standards will guide the municipality when evaluating land development applications for the establishment of these facilities.

The City of Ekurhuleni has concluded the public participation meetings to solicit comments on the draft childcare centre and spaza shop policies. However, those who still want to put their views across are welcome to do so.

You can have your say on the draft policies by emailing your comment by no later than April 30 to the following officials:
• Busisiwe Masemola at Busisiwe.masemola@ekurhulei.gov.za, or
• Ntwaki Matlou at Ntwaki.Matlou@ekurhuleni.gov.za
You can download copies of the policies from the city’s website: www.ekurhuleni.gov.za

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini explained that these policies regulate and control the operations of spaza shops and childcare centres through the prescribed norms and standards to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements and to provide for a proper establishment of spaza shops and childcare centres and the application process thereof.
“The minimum standards will guide the municipality when evaluating land development applications for the establishment of these facilities, thus ensuring a consistent approach to spaza shops and childcare centres within the city.”
