#HeritageMonth2023: Celebrating our diverse cultures during Heritage Month

We want to know how you are celebrating Heritage Month and Heritage Day, if you are.

Annually, September marks Heritage Month with Heritage Day celebrated on September 24.

Some refer to the month as the beginning of a new start as plants begin to blossom, hibernating animals, too, are emerging from their winter hideaways to embrace the new season and to mate, and the first rains are witnessed in some parts of the southern hemisphere.

In the spirit of celebrating the nation’s diverse culture and heritage, South Africans are encouraged to showcase, observe and celebrate their heritage and attend various events organised.
September 24 is also referred to as Braai Day as many people will be gathering around a braai to celebrate the day.

To observe the day and marvel at the great richness of our cultures, staff at Caxton Local Media offices, in Ravenswood, dressed in traditional attire symbolic of the diverse South Africans who work here.

They dressed up ahead of the holiday (September 24) to showcase their outfits:

According to the South African Government (www.gov.za), the 2023 Heritage Month brings focus to South Africa’s rich heritage and its immense contribution to our social, economic, health and scientific well-being especially for rural, township and peri-urban communities.
