Van Jaarsveld victorious at Boroughs of Bedford, BAC’s Silale third

She won the race in 01:01:55. Tebogo Mokgosinyane (01:03:42) was second and the Boksburg Athletic Club's Christina Silale (01:04:15) rounded-up the podium.

Two weeks after winning her first national cross-country title, Kate van Jaarsveld added the Boroughs of Bedfordview 15km race to her list of accolades on September 22.

In cold and windy conditions, Van Jaarsveld averaged 04:08min/km to claim victory in the women’s race after cutting the tape in 01:01:55, ahead of her Nedbank Running Club teammate, Tebogo Mokgosinyane.

Mokgosinyane, who duelled with Van Jaarsveld during the CGA cross-country season, clinched the runners-up spot 01:47 behind the Farrarmere resident. She crossed the line at 01:03:42.

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC)’s Christina Silale rounded up the podium after clocking 01:04:45 for third place. Her teammate, Isabella Dicks, was fourth in 01:09:55.

Silale, who finished 13th in the Exxaro Road Race Challenge 21.1km race on September 21, finished second behind Mokgosinyane in the veteran women’s (40-49) category while Dicks claimed the second spot in the women’s 20-39 category.

Christina Silale thanked her coach for her performance in the race.

Their BAC clubmate Briggite O’Connor was seventh in the veteran women’s event. She arrived at the finish in 01:18:23.

The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC)’s Jane Neilson was second in the women’s grandmasters (60-69) while teammate Signa Gustafson was seventh in the women’s 70+ race.

In the men’s race, the BAC’s Isaac Mokgola claimed the veteran men’s category by completing the 15km course in 54:42.

Mokgola, who ran in the Exxaro Road Race Challenge 10km race in Pretoria a day earlier, finished seventh overall.
Reuben Moraba of Quhebeka AC was third in the masters’ race after clocking 01:02:16. He was 19th overall.

Narish Nana of the Benoni Harriers was fourth in the grandmasters’ race. He completed the course at 01:14:48.
The BNAC’s Norman Milne clocked 01:44:32 for third place in the men’s 70+ event.
