The Qhubeka Athletic Club recently made a difference to the Windmill Park Multipurpose Centre and The Salvation Army Carl Sithole Children’s Home (Soweto) with a donation of R2 500 to each organisation.
The Sunward Park-based club raised the funds through the Qhubeka AC Human Rights Day Race on March 21, which attracted over 1 200 runners.
The club’s social co-ordinator, Ayanda Mabuye, explained they are proud to make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable children.
“As Qhubeka, we deeply appreciate the work being done by both NPOs and that community support is important if we are to make a difference.”

The Windmill Park Multipurpose Centre is a safe home to around 38 abused, neglected or abandoned children aged between a year and 18 years. It offers shelter, education, and emotional support to help these children heal and thrive.
The Salvation Army Carl Sithole Children’s Home is a haven of safety and peace for 87 children aged between three and 18 years.
“These children come into care through the courts and child welfares, often having been orphaned, neglected, abused or abandoned. Some are HIV positive,” explained Mabuya.
“It was incredibly moving to see the impact of these organisations first-hand. We hope our donation will help them continue their vital work.”
“We are not just a running club but a club that identifies with the community to support local initiatives that uplift and empower the vulnerable. We encourage fellow clubs and organisations to join us in giving back.”
Qhubeka was started by former Boksburg Athletic Club president Benzi Tenza and, among others, hosts the annual Qhubeka AC Human Rights Day Race on March 21.
