Louis claims victory in EMS Olympiad

He received accolades for being the top learner in Grade Seven and for leading his school to victory in the top independent school category.

Louis Smuts from Cube School in Boksburg has emerged as the overall winner of the provincial Economics, Management Sciences (EMS) Olympiad after he competed against 200 000 learners from both public and independent schools.

The awards ceremony was on October 26 at Hoërskool Drie Riviere in the Vaal, where they celebrated Louis was celebrated for his outstanding performance.

He received accolades for being the top learner in Grade Seven and leading his school to victory in the top independent school category.

According to his EMS teacher, Julian Mokene, the Olympiad began in September and was conducted online, featuring a series of assessments focused on EMS.

“The Olympiad aimed at teaching learners financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

“Louis’ journey through the competition was impressive. He started at the school level and advanced through cluster and district competitions, where he came first at all the levels.

“He then ultimately secured first place at the provincial level on October 16.

“The competition involved a rigorous testing format where learners were required to answer questions accurately and quickly.

“Louis excelled in this environment. He finished first in every round he participated in.”

Reflecting on his achievements, Louis expressed pride in his accomplishments.

His enthusiasm for EMS is evident; he aspires to become an actuary, a career that aligns with his interests in economics and finance.

“To prepare for the Olympiad, I dedicated one to two hours each day to studying, balancing guidance from my teachers with independent study sessions at home,” said Louis.

Cube School Boksburg principal Elize van Rooyen praised Louis’s achievements and acknowledged the collective effort of the teachers at Cube School.

“Seeing learners grow mentally and physically is brilliant.

“We are incredibly proud of our teachers who support our learners’ ambitions and help them reach their potential.”

“Congratulations to Louis and everyone at Cube School for this outstanding accomplishment,” said Van Rooyen.
