CoE responds to calls for signs near Rondebult Road sinkholes
This publication recently highlighted the risks posed by the lack of early road signs warning motorists about the diversion and barricades.
The CoE will respond to the calls for early warnings and regulatory road signs on the stretch of Rondebult Road leading to the giant sinkholes.
The commitment came after the Boksburg Advertiser’s reportage highlighted the risks posed by the city’s failure to install early road signs warning motorists about the diversion and barricades.
This publication highlighted that the lack of early warning sees dozens of drivers miss the turnoff and come face-to-face with the conspicuously placed barricades, leaving motorists suddenly confronted with dangerous situations that could lead to injuries or death daily.
According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the city’s target is to install the signs at least by the end of this month (November).
“We have ordered them accordingly. However, it is regrettable that we have to go down this route because of theft and vandalism of the signs initially installed.”
Responding to questions about the conspicuously placed barricades and the faded road markings, especially those that help guide motorists to the detour, Dlamini said, “This should also be done by the end of November, weather permitting.”
