Crumbling N17 bridge is attended to

What remains for the processes is the last part of appointing a contractor to carry out the construction works.

Following many calls to repair the crumbling portion of the N17 pedestrian’s overpass bridge in Van Dyk Park, SANRAL says the matter is receiving attention and progress has been made in the process to get a contractor to repair the bridge across the freeway.

A section of the 34-year-old bridge was reportedly damaged when an unidentified vehicle crashed into one of the bridge’s supporting columns, thus causing the ramp to settle and crack.

The damaged N17 pedestrian’s overpass bridge in Van Dyk Park demands action.

The matter was reported to the agency early this year and concerned residents have after many months of no action to fix the bridge questioned SANRAL’s ‘delay’ to address the obvious danger posed by the bridge.
Responding to questions posed to the agency by the Boksburg Advertiser, SANRAL project manager in the Northern Region, Alan Agaienz, said design consultants have been appointed and have finalised the design report for repairing the bridge.

“The consultants have already submitted the design to SANRAL for review and the review comments were transmitted to the design consultants for incorporation in the final detailed design.
“The detailed design and preparation of a tender document for carrying out the repairs processes are underway. This document is expected to be submitted to SANRAL this month and, thereafter, the tender process will unfold,” said Agaienz.
