Strong men and women flex muscles in aid of St Francis

The funds raised were used to purchase items on the organisation's wish list.

The recent Buurman’s Bok Power strongman competition in Charl Cilliers Street, Boksburg North, ensured St Francis Care Centre was blessed this Christmas.

Brian Steenkamp, an athlete for South African Strongman, explained he organised the event in aid of St Francis with the assistance of Buurman’s Pub and Grill owner Ricky Soares.

The highlights of the event included a strongman arm wrestling and eating competition.

Musician Armand Hofmeyr entertained guests.

Steenkamp described the event as a success, adding they raised R7 000 used to buy items on St Francis’s wish list.

Coenraad Takkie van Staden, a player for the Boksburg Rugby Club, managed to do a car deadlift for a total of 20 repetitions to help raise R1 000 for the organisation.

“These strongman events motivate me to give back to the children as I can just imagine the daily battles they must go through. There was no placement in the competition because my goal was for this to be the first of its kind in Boksburg North and everyone walks out a winner,” Steenkamp added.

The organiser thanked those who contributed to the success of the event.

Steenkamp highlighted that they are planning more strongman events for charity in the future.

St Francis Care Centre fundraiser Jessie Amond expressed his gratitude to the organisers for supporting them.
