EMPD hone in on illegal traders in the CBD

Clamp downs are set to continue in an effort to eradicating operations that are in contravention of the City’s by-laws.

Illegal roadside mechanics and food traders bore the brunt of the EMPD By-Law Enforcement and Compliance Unit’s Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) operation on May 18.

From 08:00 to 13:00, officers were deployed to Windmill Park and the Boksburg CBD, confiscating tools from unpermitted mechanics as well as food prepared on the side of the road.

“The operation started in Leeuwpoort Street, where officers were tasked with shutting down unpermitted vehicle maintenance services, offered in parking areas and next to the side of the road,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.

“At the Ramaphosa informal settlement and along Rondebult Road, Windmill Park, tools, jumper cables, trolleys used to carry mechanical tools and steel ramps were also confiscated.”

She said pots and food, unlawfully prepared and sold on sidewalks where confiscated and taken to the EMPD Boksburg pound for safekeeping.
“The operation forms part of the CoE’s commitment to ensuring safety and cleanliness for all community members,’ she said.
